Jose and Natalie part 2.

I met Natalie back in December and we hit it off right away. As many bride's, Natalie was a full time college student (now a graduate from Rowan U in Education) and lost about where to begin with the planning process. Natalie is your quintessential girlie-girl, and what does your girlie like, PINK!!! I had a blast with Natalie and Jose's wedding and the conceptual design was even more fun. With every client, I get them involved in the design process. From a mood board to mock up's and planned execution. This event was perfect. Stay tuned for Natalie and Jose's wedding. I would also like to add about this special couple. I have never met such a loving and beautiful family. And I was honored to have planned the most happiest day of their lives. Congrats Guys!

Natalie was your true "Cinderella" she wore a Oleg Cassini Ball Gown from Davids Bridal. 

Nat's B-Maids wore this one Shoulder Grecian Gown in Raspberry and Canary. Their Flowers were designed by Angela MALICKI events and Natural Designs PA

The Table scape for the Reception was beautiful. Ballerina Pink Ribbon Taffeta overlays with Garden Fuchsia pink satin napkins. My assistant and I had folded each one and set up this room in 3 hours. I was perfect. The Flowers were magnificent. A variety of 9 flowers placed on a 36" cylinder with crystal dripping inside. Custom table cards and motives completed the look. Lighting and Design provided by Angela MALICKI events. I had created their logo identity and this was carried through out the event from invites, programs, place cards, table signs and Gobo. It made their own. I had hand drawn the logo from a photo of Nat's wedding dress. Go figure!

I love the idea of a photo booth at a wedding. Here we are the last to have our photo taken. Thanks guys for letting us be apart of your wedding. And a special thanks to my lovely assistant Eric

Jason and Noreen Part 2

I told you that I would have fabulous photos of Jason and Noreen's wedding and I do, thanks to the phenom Siobhan, owner of dollface studio. Their Independence Day weekend wedding weather was perfect. Noreen looked like an old Hollywood Scarlett with her classic touches.Their reception took place at the Union League of Philadelphia.The staff there were great to work with. A special thanks to Abby, Ramone and most importantly Shereena! Jason and Noreen were a delight to work with and I was proud to work with this great couple.

Noreen's Nina shoes were SPECTACULAR! Her something blue as you can see are the crystals that say it all.

Noreen's dress was by Oleg Cassini, a designer sold at David's Bridal. This dress fit the theme perfectly.

Take notice of the linens. I had created their table scape that consisted of white linens, teal shimmer organza overlays, sultan red satin napkins (that my assistant and I folded in the envelope fold - all 130 of them) and hand blown glass votive disks in red and teal. 

The floral design consisted of tall cylinder vases with large alll white flowers from roses, hydrangaes, stock and lilies. The room smelled wonderful. Thanks to Jeff Sell of Natural Designs

Jason and Noreen Part 1

What a fabulous wedding during the birthday of our country. Jason and Noreen finally tied the knot. The day was picture perfect and the love was every where. The couple had their ceremony at The Germantown Christian Assembly on Mt. Pleasant Avenue and their reception was held at the historic Union League of Philadelphia. I want to give you a sneak peak of a few images that I took, you just have to be patient for the rest. The fabulous and talented Siobhan, owner of dollface studios documented the day. I can't wait!

Jason and Noreen were transformed in old hollywood. Noreen's accessories were an ostrich feather hair pin with jewels and lace. and a pearl and diamond cuff with pave diamond drop earrings. She looked SPECTACULAR!

Wow, I'm still in shock that a piece of my childhood is gone. Michael Jackson had such an impact on everyone, at least for me he did. I remember when I was 5 hanging out with my older cousin in Feltonville ( a weekly ritual that I cherished), as soon as the Thriller album hit the shelves I was there with my cousin at the Sam Goody. I still have that record, and I will forever miss Michael. His music has touched many people and he will be eternally remembered. He is in heaven with the King of Rock and Roll, The Godfather of Soul, Ol Blue Eyes. The King of Pop has left the building!

Happy Anniversary Yom and Paul!

Last year at this time I had the pleasure coordinating Yom and Paul's wedding. They were absolutely fabulous to work with. When I met Yom, she was overwhelmed with the planning process and didn't know were to begin. Yom and Paul originally wanted to get married in Jamaica, but with their large family (Paul comes from a family of 12) it was impossible. So Jamaica came to Philly (well the theme that is). We first started with her color palette, hot red, platinum,white and turquoise. We took care of all the details, from custom invitations with logo design (that was also used for the gobo design on the dance floor), custom favor design (they gave each couple a set of hand etched coasters from Jamaica), floral design and personals( Yom carried 4 dozen Charlotte Roses, the centerpieces had 4 and half dozen red and white roses and the added height of the callas). The room needed something special and that was LIGHTING!I loved the way the room turned out with the pin-spotting and the up-lighting. Yoma dn Paul couldn't believe that it was the same room. The guests enjoyed the signature drink and danced to the smooth music all night.This event was beautifully captured by the extremely amazing dollface studio!I will never forget this wedding or this couple! More years of happiness guys!

Yom's gown was breathtaking, it was a Austin Scarlett for Kenneth Pool and the girls dresses were Jim Hjelm

Her entire bridal party came from all parts of the US from L.A., New York and San Diego, they all came to be with their girl

We had lined the aisle with over 10,000 rose petals(it's true) Yom walked down to a Kenny G song played by the harpist. The ceremony was held at the Second Baptist Church of Doylestown. Right in Yom and Paul's neighborhood.

The room was spectacular, the custom logo was used for the gobo. Brian Toner and his team did a great job

I loved the signature drink, it was a blue Hawaiian martini

and the dancing didn't stop, the party went until 1 AM that night, it was a blast

WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHER HELPING CURE CANCER, ONE WEDDING VIDEO AT A TIME

Absolute Media Productions announced yesterday that they will donate 10% of sales, indefinitely, to help support the research and search for a cure for pancreatic cancer. "In late 2007, we were shocked to find out that a dear friend had been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer," said Denise Elsasser, vice-president, Absolute Media Productions. "Sadly, after enduring a grueling 18-month battle with this deadly disease, he passed. He was only 31 years old."

The American Cancer Society estimates that 42,470 Americans will be diagnosed with pancreatic cancer during 2009. Statistics indicate that the overall five-year relative pancreatic cancer survival rate is mere 4%, and the lifetime risk of developing pancreatic cancer is about 1 in 76. When you look at the big picture of how cancer impacts us as Americans, it hits home even harder. About 1,479,350 new cancer cases are expected to be diagnosed in 2009.  This year alone, about 562,340 Americans are expected to die of cancer, more than 1,500 people a day. Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the US, exceeded only by heart disease. In the US, cancer accounts for nearly 1 of every 4 deaths.

"We want to do our part," said Elsasser. "This is why we have decided to donate 10% of our sales to charity." Absolute Media Productions supports Johns Hopkins Pancreatic Cancer Research Center, but has stated that they will give the option to each client where the money gets donated. "We realize that everyone may have a different charity that is close to the heart," said DamonDietz, president, Absolute Media Productions, "so we will donate 10% of the cost of each wedding to a charity of our clients' choosing. If our clients have no preference, or would like to support pancreatic cancer research, the money will be donated to benefit Johns Hopkins Pancreatic Cancer Research Center."

My good Darah, owner of dollface studio contacted me " Ang I need help with my brunch, any suggestions"? HELLO, of course I can help. I asked her a few questions about what kind of feel she was going for with decor and food suggestions. First and foremost, I asked about the decor of her house. Every event that I coordinate for my clients, I designed an identity that no one will have. I started with her logo, this was discreetly represented through out the brunch, from drink tents, cocktail straws and food picks. It turned out perfect. Next, flowers, with Darah's open room space and window height was a perfect back drop for the florals, the solution was curly willows and pops of color with the peonies, and what is a dollface party without PINK!.Food was another major part. With a brunch, especially when there are people walking and mingling you want to have a variety of colorful foods, different textures and for those that do not eat meat, your vegan options. The brunch was a fabulous success and everyone had a great time. We enjoyed the great sounds of Biggie Smalls and Reggae and sipped on Electric Lemonade and Mimosas. But most of all, we celebrated the birthday of a great friend! Can't wait til next year Darah. A special thanks to Lesllie Gilbert, owner of Leslie Gilbert Photography who snapped a few of the images posted.

Patti and Kevin

It's been a while since I blogged, too long to mention. My season began with a fabulous wedding with a FABULOUS couple! I met Patti and Kevin literally 2 days before their wedding in Philadelphia with heir talented and funny photographer Geoffrey Horowitz, owner of Leapfrog Photography. Patti and Kevin live in Atlanta, Georgia. Patti, originally from Philly, brought alittle bit of Georgia to the City of Brotherly Love. The ceremony was held at Patti's parish at St. Dot's in Drexel HIll and the reception at the gorgeous Downtown Marriott. I loved this couple SO much. They had their good friend and DJ from Atlanta emcee the event, not one person was sitting down. The highlight of the evening(which were many to mention) was when DJ Alan Shirley gave a sentimental gift to Kevin - The Joey Scarbury "Greatest American Hero" record in it's original case. What a surprise, the biggest surprise was Kevin began belting out the lyrics to the song on the dance floor. That was PRICELESS! I will never forget this event and most of all this AWESOME couple. Patti and Kevin honeymooned in Costa Rica.

The girls wore these beautiful plum colored cocktail dresses from Pricilla of Boston. The color tied the event together.

Ah, Wedding Season! Why stress

Wedding season is blossoming early for many professionals and of course, planners. Couples are either beginning or finalizing their plans for their big day, and the panic begins! No matter how organized one can be, there is that little issue that comes to mind of "What might Happen"? Don't stress, I'm here for you baby! What does a planner do exactly? We take all your stressful thoughts and throw them out the window. A planner is that person that understands your needs and can see your vision, and most of all-knowing your day will be perfect! A go to person when you need advice for those last minute "whatevers", but most of all your PLANNER. I remember when I got married, I had no planner and I wish I did.Some of those "What might Happen" did happen. Whadda ya gonna do!

The King LIVES!

I don't think that anyone knows this about me, but I'm a huge Elvis Presley fan! Today Elvis Aron Presley would have been 74 years old. Born on January 8, 1935 in Tupolo, Mississippi, Elvis had big dreams and a bigger voice, the world wasn't ready for ELVIS! He was a self taught musician, and a great entertainer. I never get tired listening to his music, especially his gospel and of course his classics! Tragically, Elvis left us on August 16, 1977 - he was 42.

Another reason why today is memorable for me, Todd proposed in 2004 on this very day! By luck,maybe, more like fate.

 

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Wow, just 10 years ago we were partying like it was 1999! Then the Millennium rolled in quick,we survived it with no blackout. And look now, 2009...

When a new year begins, every one starts a resolution, follows through with it for about a week or month and drops it. That's normal! For me, it's an epiphany. Looking back last year(which was about two seconds ago),I say to myself "What could have been different" or"What could I have done better", these are a few questions and thoughts I had. Growing up in a traditional Greek family, we had this tradition that we would do, we would make this cake the "vasolopita", basically sweet bread braided and shaped in a circle and a coin would be dropped in the batter. The head of the household would cut it in order, one for God, blessed mother, the house, and so on and the person who found the coin would have good luck that year. Sounds bogus, I know, but that feeling of anticipation with each cut wishing that I would receive it or whomever, that tradition I follow still to this day, even after my fathers passing which will be 10 years this March. 

I wish everyone a happy, healthy, prosperous and filled with love new year!

Dinner with friends Part 2.

Every year we have a progressive dinner with our neighbors in Phoenixville. It was a huge success. You chose three houses, one serves appetizers, the second the main course and the third and my favorite dessert! This year,I served the dessert. As designer, I wanted the decor and the selection of sweets to reflect my culture and personality. I served traditional greek sugar cookies and baklava. Ofcourse other staple favorites, snickerdoodles, chocolate chip cookies and chocolate peppermint martini's! What is dessert with out a peppermint martini. This experience was a fun and memorable one. A friendship with your neighbors, is a great one.

I love this concept! when creating a theme for any event, have in mind your colors and thoughts in check. I wanted something crisp and clean. I chose white, platinum and princess blue.

As you know, I belong to a fabulous and exclusive organization for planners and business partners in the industry called the Society of Wedding Planners. We met at the Loews Hotel downtown for our monthly pow wow. The Loews provided an amazing meeting space for us and a wonderful lunch. The Society discussed great topics and insight. We welcomed new members and reunited with existing ones.

I had a great opportunity in September to participate and coordinate a fabulous bridal fashion show at Ann Taylor in the Plaza. I designed all print, including invitations and programs. I had several adds on The Knot, Wedding Wire and The Plaza Happenings. This show went amazing.! I contacted a few of my talented professionals and they accepted. Cindi, from Select Event Rentals,donated all the delicious table linens. They were a huge hit for the direction of the event.  Siobhan, one of the owners of dollface studio photography(Darah the other and love them both) shot all the photos for the event. Siobhan was a huge part, especially documenting this day. I wanted to do something that instantly would create that WOW factor. I partnered with Iris, owner of Colors By Padmini for the dramatic organza sheers that were hung thru out the store. Sharon Durran and Victoria , event managers at Maggiano's, provided the appetizers for the event. Maggiano's does an amazing job consistently, that's why their reputation is well known every where. They also offer catering off site and their KOP facility has an amazing private reception room, not to mention, the staff is top notch! One of my favorite professionals was, Tom Covello, owner of Celebrations Design Group. He created all the floral art for the table and I mean FLORAL ART! He went above and beyond, his tables-capes had amazing interests everyone was loved them. He also has his own floral studio in the Hotel PuPont in DE.

Let there be cake! Well ours was from Clays Creative Corner Bakery in Berwyn. It was delicious! They coordinated the colors according to the event and turned out fabulous. Jeremy, owner of Prestige Chocolates Online also provided the decedent truffles for all of us. He hand makes all his truffles from scratch. They make great corporate and wedding favors.  Well, bridal show fashion can not be completed without - diamonds! Michelle and her bodyguard from Tiffany and Co. in the Plaza, lent us over 70,000 in diamonds. That was a huge hit with everyone. Michelle is such a sweet person and an honest one at that. Check her out in the Plaza on the second floor. The models, all 15 of them that is, were pampered head to toe by a few talented professionals. Susan, owner of  Sevan the Salon in Conshohocken, (not to mention, the salon I go to, see Melissa) came with her staff and completed the models looks, and  They LOOKED AMAZING. All the models had a sexy fierce look that worked for the catwalk and for any special event. Well, what was the crowd jumping to, DJ Ric ROK with proper talent that is. Rick and his partner set the mood right, spinning an eclectic sound that was heard literally thru the first level of the Plaza. Contact me with his info. Wow guys, I know, I fell of the face of the earth! I've been crazy busy lately with everything.

Dogs do the darnest things

There are many things that I love in my life, my husband, family, friends and my four legged son - Titus! He's a miniature schnauzer with lots of energy and personality. We were watching one of our favorite programs the other night Dog Whisper on the National Geographic Channel (I heart Cesar Milan), Cesar had a client whose dog loved eating paper. All of a sudden, Titus jumped from the couch and started barking at the dog! I thought it was the funniest thing to see my baby jumping at the t.v. It's amazing that dogs have such a quick reaction to other dogs, especially on t.v. 

he's amazing with hard to manage dogs, but most of all, he has great teeth!

A few months ago, I planned Yom and Paul's fabulous wedding from beginning to end. One of her guests and good friend called me fews weeks weeks back asked if I do themed or children's parties? This was a great opportunity to show my fun side. The theme naturally - Halloween! This event was all about the children having fun with various activities including, pumpkin carving contests, bobbing for apples and smashing the pinata. The decor was festive and chic. There were alot of elements that were put in place, from the dinning room and living room space. My client had amazing halloween accessories, and we utilized them in every part of the main entertaining area. The event was a success! I look forward to another themed party!

Happy Anniversary to Us, part 2

Well our anniversary was yesterday and we had a very "us" style evening. That was doing nothing, enjoying movies and resting in our jammies. We had dinner from Maggiano's ordered, china and crystal set, and my favorite part - enjoying a bottle of red wine from argentina that I've been saving! When Todd and I went on our honeymoon to Coral Gables Florida,we stayed at the historic and exclusive hotel - The Hotel St. Michel. And there was this amazing wine store with an eclectic blend of different wines.I knew that I wanted to bring a bottle back and enjoy it for our one year and I did, two bottles! I enjoyed the Monchenot Bodega Lopez aged red 1990 (it was delicious, tough bite at first, smooth ending),and Todd enjoyed with Martenelli's Sparkling Cider.

Tonight I just came back from my monthly meetings with the Society of Wedding Planners, and the meeting was held at the fabulous Westin downtown. The service as always, was top notch! If you thinking of a great facility, contact Stuart Mahan - director of catering, smahan@westinphila.com David Hoeffel of Sound Choice Disc Jockeys, INC , was setting the mood with great music.

There were special guests and great business partners in the industry including Karen Pecora (founder of the society), Kathy Bado (owner of the Wedding Factor), Mark Kingsdorf (owner of Queen of Hearts Wedding Consulting), Eli Allen (owner of Majestic Imagery) and Tim Sudall (owner of Video One productions) to name a few.

I just bought my fall issue of Martha Stewart Weddings, and I love her more and more, (her mag that is)! There are a lot of great ideas on personalizing and color scheme. But most how to pick your planner! On page 134 there are great tips and questions to ask when hiring your planner.

Is hiring a planner right for you?
What do you need?
What does the planner need?
How do you find a planner?
What questions should you ask?
How do you know if she's the one?

Interview 2 or 3 planners. Review their site, is there something you saw that you loved and most of all, hire the one that you had a connection with. And say to your self "Can I see this person being there for me on my day, ALL DAY?

I loved this article because it was insightful from different perspective. Does your planner offer options to you without you asking? Does my planner suggest ideas that I might like instead? Does my planner assist me and my fiance with hard decisions?

Dinner with friends

I LOVE THIS SEASON, ESPECIALLY OCTOBER! Over the weekend Todd and I invited our neighbors over for a appetizer party and it was fabulous! We had everything from pumpkin soup to spanakopita, (naturally from me). I wanted to do something fun and creative without being tacky. China and crystal at my house always! I love my aisle runner. Its from Pottery Barn, and it glows in the dark. I wrapped my chandelier with spooky felted garland and of course, hanging spiders.

Each guest had their own skull and place card with their name on it. This event was a hit and I can't wait til December for our progressive dinner.

These type of get soirees are great to mingle with your neighbors and see their culinary skills in actions. Plus, for once you don't have to cook everything yourself!

Happy Anniversary to Us!

Tomorrow is my first year wedding anniversary! How did time go by so fast. I remember that morning very well and the feelings that I felt all day. Well, being Greek your going to have issues that day on your wedding. My life is exactly like the movie "My Gig Fat Greek Wedding". It was a perfect day just like today, and I thought, "Is this really happening to me"!
I had relatives fly from greece, of course not speaking a stitch of english. In my room alone I had thirteen people assisting me and just being there. Oh, not to mention on the phone to - calling from greece!

Ready,Set and Go. Not that easy. Limo arrived and we ran down the stairs like a stampede of animals trying to be at the church on time. My older brother was walking me down the aisle and naturally, he's not even dressed as he's chomping on a Stella Doro cookie! I'm pissed!!!

Off I go to the church wondering can anything else go wrong. Well it did. When the limo driver dropped us off, he was tired of driving around the block so many times because we arrived 25 minutes early. So the opportunity of me going to the restroom was his key outta here. And he ditched us for good!

Whatever you ladies do, go to the restroom before you get dressed. So what was I going to do, pan it out the entire hour of the ceremony, or just go? Well I went - in the restroom in the church hall. My MOH assisted me with my dress, it was like the scene in 27 dresses.

So the drama of the limo driver was fresh on the brain and you know me, waiting in the foyer of the church, I'm telling everyone! So it's show time, planning and organizing my wedding was a cake. Lining up the bridal party and sending them down the aisle, this was my calling.

My que, my brother was walking me down very emotional, not me. I was waiving to everyone as I was Miss. America! How often does this happen in your life where your the center of attention? Todd was waiting, a nervous wreck, not knowing what to expect in a Greek ceremony.

Finnally! Announced husband and wife! Pictures and off to the reception. We had blast that day and the one advice I give to you ladies is, "Remember everything that happened to you, so you can share it with everyone"!
